After years of stuffing clay into plastic baggies and storing the baggies in plastic shoeboxes, this is what I came up with. I like it a lot. I no longer waste time sorting through unorganized piles of plastic bags to find the color I want. Now I can see all my mixes at a glance. I can lay colors next to one another to find combinations I like. The clay stays clean and lint-free.
I store the large blocks of clay in a drawer unit with casters.
The plastic storage boxes are ArtBin 9101AB Super Satchel Slim with Removable Dividers. They stack nicely.
I sheet the clay, stack and cut it to the same size and wrap it in pre-cut pieces of plastic wrap. The plastic wrap I use is 6″ x 5″ Perforated Film – 3000/Roll from https://www.webstaurantstore.com . Unfortunately it’s kind of thin and gets soft when in contact with polymer, but it still works.
It takes some maintenance to do this, but it’s such an improvement from this mess…
I like your system. I do something similar: I use my NeverKnead press to form the extra clay into cubes. I have found this more useful than sheets when it comes time to reconditioning. I can slice off the amount needed and sheet it from there without cracking (I “wake” up the cube with the press first). But like your arrangements, the colors are kept nice and neat in the box. Betsy

That’s a good use for a NeverKnead!
